Well, 2008 is half over. How did THAT happen? We've already had some great albums and great songs released this year. The A.V. Club released their list of the best songs so far, and I've hardly heard any of them - although a ton of them are on my list! Alternately, a lot of my favorite songs of the year are absent from their list. Without further ado, here are my favorite songs of the year to this point, after the break.

Lykke Li - Dance Dance Dance
Tilly & The Wall - Alligator Skin
Wolf Parade - Fine Young Canibals
We Are Scientists - Chick Lit
Vampire Weekend - M79
The Submarines - You Me and the Bourgeoise
Nada Surf - I Like What You Say
Matt Costa - Vienna
Islands - The Arm
Headlights - January
Fanfarlo - You Are One of the Few Outsiders Who Really Understands Us
Estelle - American Boy (Ft. Kanye West)
Death Cab for Cutie - No Sunlight
Crystal Castles - Crimewave
Coldplay - Viva La Vida
The Kooks - Shine On
Aimee Mann - Ballantines
Annuals - Around Your Neck
Sigur Ros - Gobbledigook
Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - Glue Girls
Mystery Jets - Flakes
What Made Milwaukee Famous - Sultan
Bon Iver - Blindsided (Rereleased this year)
Mates of State - My Only Offer
The Helio Sequence - Keep Your Eyes Ahead
MGMT - Time To Pretend
Basia Bulat - I Was A Daughter (2008 US Release)
Liam Finn - Second Chance (2008 International Release)
Laura Marling - New Romantic
The Virgins - Private Affair

And some of my favorite videos:

Even with the overuse lately of the "famous youtube montage" - for example, the South Park episode, this is still a really clever and fun video.

This video is worth every second just to see Keith Murray dressed up in Brokeback gear. Yes. Please.

Sigur Ros - Gobbledigook - A beautiful video featuring people running around in the woods naked. It is gorgeously filmed and just seems so ALIVE. View it at http://www.sigurros.com

Fyfe Dangerfield in the back of a car? Just where I want him! "In another life I'd be drenched in sweat with you. But it's this life darling - this life - we make due. Get over it."

Continuous shots are HOT. As are Vampire Weekend.

Speaking of continuous shots... this LIVE David Ford video demonstrates how this boy has looping down like not many other people.

Is this an official video? It really goes a long way to capturing the frozen, forested, Robert Frost type of solitude that the whole album delivers. It's ultra simple, but not boring.

Fun + Artistic = Wonderful

Both super simple videos that I feel match the feel of the songs. I love the background dancer guys in the Little Bit video (which I can't stop listening to on repeat no matter how hard I try).
