New Tuesday (May 30) May 30, 2006 Posted by Kyle Maybe it is the fact that I am burnt out about writing about new CDs, but there wasn't too much this week that really struck me as noteworthy. So I'm going to limit most things to just a single line.
The 1900s, Plume Delivery EP - A great Chicago band! When I saw them live with the Spinto Band I really enjoyed them, especially the songs with lead female vocals. This album I feel would appeal to fans of bands like the New Pornographers. VAST, Turquoise & Crimson - So, I got a little burned out on the whole VAST multi-downloads thing. I mean, I find it really cool that that stuff is offered, but also frustrating. On one hand I want(ed) to own everything but on the other hand it felt like I was just getting different versions of the same song. So, now Turquoise and Crimson are released. These were previously available as digital downloads and then songs were taken from that, studio produced and made into Nude. So I really don't NEED this CD. But then I started looking at some of the stuff that I had been ignoring from VAST...the album of early early demos, the download of a demos for a new album in September, and I realize it has been a while since I listened to VAST and that I am getting a little excited for the Martyrs show this fall. Maybe not enough to buy this album right now, but still excited.
Boards of Canada - Electronic from a not-actually-Canadian group from Scotland Asobi Seksu - The name basically means sex for fun. Indie pop with some Japanese vocals thrown in Peeping tom - If the band above means sex for fun, this band is sex to be raunchy. I feel dirty just listening to the clips. Some interesting collaborations though...Amon Tobin, Massive Attack, and, oddly, Norah Jones.
