New Tuesday (April 25 Recap)
May 12, 2006
Posted by Kyle

Hi everyone! Shayna and I have moved into our new place and have started to get settled it. That means that I should start churning out a couple of posts now and again in the middle of being crazy busy. I mean if Brit can find time to churn out new spawn in her busy life of what I am guessing currently is 24/7 banquet tv dinner eating, I should be able to get out a couple of posts. So, without further pomp and circumstance, here is a look at some of the new albums that came out in my absence. (I am forgoing linking to amazon since I have so much catching up to do!)

rakes.jpgThe Rakes are a super catchy indie rock/post-punk east London group and their album Capture/Release rocks. Sure, it sounds like a lot of other British Rock stuff that I am digging on now...but hey the more the merrier.
secret machines.jpgThe Secret Machines released their new album, Ten Silver Drops which sounds decent...I'll have to see what I think of them live at Lollapalooza. I kind of enjoy their video for Lightning Blue Eyes but mostly for the sound effects at the beginning (the door opening and closing) and the long uncut shots.
streets.jpgThe Streets new album is Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living.I dig it...I mean, if I'm going to be listening to rap it is going to be Brit rap. "When You Wasn't Famous" is fun and I really like "Never Went to Church" which kind of sounds like a Mat Kearney song if he were British. Maybe they could duet?
edd.jpgEleventh Dream Day is a Chicago band that has been around since the late 80's and though they have quit touring and other normal band activities they are still releasing albums. The band features Tourtise member Doug McCombs as well as a member of Freakwater.
ep.jpg Elf Power is one of my favorite release of this week (from what I have heard). The new album, "Back to the Web," is full of indie rock/pop songs that should be heard such as "Peel Back the Moon, Beware" and "An Old Familiar Scene." And anyone associated with the Elephant Six Collective is someone to be embraced.
elmk.jpgIf the Streets is the kind of rap I would listen to, Emmylou Harris is the kind of country. The new Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris CD is pretty great...I love male and female duets and "All the Roadrunning" is loaded with them. I love the beautiful title track which features this lyric: "The rimshots come down like cannon fire and thunder off the wall. There's a man in every corner and each one is giving his all." Heh. I know it's not really dirty, but heh. Too bad that song wasn't ready for the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack.
rm.jpgThe melodies on "Cast Away the Clouds" are freakin' gorgeous. It is an extremely mellow collection...perfect for a gray day. Rose kind of reminds me of the mellower tracks of Azure Ray, but less gloomy and more dreary if that makes any sense. Definitely check out the title track.
sm.jpgStarlight Mints is a quirky Oklahoma group that many have compared to the flaming lips (re: quirky). While there are probably better comparrisons out there, that one is close enough...I feel like fans of the Flaming Lips would probably really enjoy this group. Check out Inside of Me.
mikejo.jpgDinosaur Jr. former bassist Mike Johnson released a new album, "Gone out of your mind." He has been compared to Mark Eitzel, Tim Buckley and Leonard Cohen. Good stuff.
