New Tuesday
April 16, 2006Posted by Kyle
 | Better late then never, here is a rundown of last Tuesday's new albums.
While Idaho's Josh Ritter I think stands up better as a live artist than on CD, "Animal Years" might be the best we have seen from him. It is filled with many beautiful mellow folk songs such as "Idaho," "Monster Ballads," and "One More Mouth" that will be sure to please sad bastard music lovers like me. Be sure to catch Josh live if you have a chance. |
 | I first heard of Calexico when I was in Ireland a couple of years ago, with "Feast of Wire" playing over the speakers of a small CD store. On inquiring about it the workers told me it was a US band and that everyone had been asking about it since they started playing it in store. Calexico's new album, "Garden Ruin," still has everything I enjoyed about Calexico including mariachi horns and Southwestern flavor, however it sounds like they took some ideas away from last years "In The Reins" Iron and Wine collaberation. This album seems a little more accessible but no less good. |
 | "Outgoing Behavior" is the new album from Seattle indie band The Crystal Skulls. It's definitely worth checking out...the first couple of tracks especially have a lot of potential. |
 | "Some Echoes" is the latest offering from Aloho and Entertainment Weekly says it is "a perfect laser show soundtrack for the art school set." Aloha is highly recommended by Steven. Listen or face his wrath. |
 | "Young Gravity," Peter Walker's debut album sounds good...which makes sense since it was produced by Aaron Espinoza from Earlimart and Jim Fairchild from Grandaddy. He is going to be on tour with great groups like Earlimart, Sondre Lerche and Magnet. Check him out. |
 | The Yeah Yeah Yeah's Imaad Wasif delivers his first solo album...an extremely chill album which would be perfect for late nights curled up with a good book. |
 | This album is worth noting just for the name of its first track: "Don't Ever Tell Locke What He Can't Do." And they are Canadian. So I love them already on principal. There are some good songs on the album too, my favorite being the emotastic closer "The Song I Swore to Never Sing." |
 | "Field Music" is the catchy(ish) Indie Pop debut from England's band of the same name. |
