I've been promising my roomie from Ireland, Jamie, a mix CD for awhile. While visiting him in Florida a couple of months ago we heard a great cover of "Mack the Knife" by Ella Fitzgerald in which she didn't know all of the worlds but still made the song entertaining. Afterwards I decided a great mix for Jamie would of more contemporary female singers that I thought he would enjoy. I wrote up this tracklist for him so he could learn a little about the different artists on the CD. (I already have the entire tracklist formulated for Jamie's Girl Mix #2, so don't worry if you don't see your favorite ladies on here.)

 | If there is one new (and by new I mean remastered re-release) album to get this week it is the Margot and the Nuclear So & So's album "The Dust of Retreat." This album will most definitely quickly become one of my favorite debut albums of the year. Richard Edwards voice is beautiful and mesmerizing... the album is a positive progression from his previous band, Archer Avenue. I especially love "On a Freezing Chicago Street" which sounds a little like Sufjan Stevens meets "Plans" ere Death Cab. I can't wait to put it on a playlist and listen to it next winter while walking the freezing Chicago streets. Wait a second...I can TOTALLY wait for that. Luckily the album has 12 tracks and is enjoyable in any weather. Pick up your copy now... it is only a matter of time before the OC gets their hands on this one (if they already haven't) and they blow up. |

This Saturday the lovely Sarah offered me a ticket to see James Blunt at the Riviera. We got a couple of passes to pretty sweet “pod” boxes right up front and therefore had a pretty great spot despite getting there a song or two into the second opener, The Boy Least Likely To (who, incidentally, I thought was fantastic, especially their song “Be Gentle With Me.”)
Let me give you a little background on James Blunt and me before we get started. I was sent a copy of the British version of James Blunt’s debut album, Back to Bedlam, back in the early months of 2005. I’ll admit, on the first couple of listens I was thrown by his very unique falsetto voice, but after a couple of listens it began to grow on me. I especially liked the songs “High” and “You’re Beautiful” which I wore out by listening to so much. One line in particular from “You’re Beautiful” struck me every time I listened: “She caught my eye as I walked on by…she could see from my face that I was fucking high.” I have somewhat of a weak spot for the use of “fuck” in a song, especially when an artist very rarely uses it in songs.

I'm not even going to try and hide it, readers. It has been a long time, huh? This is quite the step up in the world from yahoo groups and Xanga, don't you think?
So now I'm back from outerspace and I'm ready to shake my word thang all over this place. Considering all I ever talk about is music anyway, this site will pretty much free me up from requiring any kind of real world interaction at all!
Anyway, that's all I have to say for now. I don't want to take up any more of your precious time that could be better spent setting this page as your homepage or forwarding the link on to all of your friends!
